April 1st was originally New Years Day, until the
introduction of the Gregorian Calender by King Charles IX of France in 1582.
Some chose to ignore January 1st as New Years Day and continued to celebrate on
April 1st instead, hence people began to make fun of them, sending them on "fool's
errands" or trying to trick them into believing something false. Eventually, the
practice spread throughout Europe and April Fools Day was here to stay!
