During May we attended a number of exhibitions, meeting professionals from the emergency services, rail and automotive industries.

We kicked off the month with the UK's leading emergency services and preparedness exhibition. The event was a great opportunity to discuss the importance of secure key management to this vitally important industry.

From 9-10th the team exhibited at Railtex 2017. The event saw professionals from every area of the rail industry come together to discuss best practice and network.

It was a great way for Keytracker to highlight the importance of key and equipment management to all areas of the rail sector, from key and equipment management during construction, to daily management of on-board handheld devices for train operators.

At CDX the team demonstrated the benefits of integration with Dealer Management Systems and leading biometric technology to provide a secure, efficient way of managing multiple vehicle keys. Our Business Development Manager, Ryan Slaney also gave a demonstration in the CDX theatre on the evolution of the motor trade industry.

This month we will be at Automechanika, the automotive supply chain and aftermarket trade show, on stand 19F3.

Later in June we will be attending both IFSEC International on stand H1000 and the Facilities Show on stand M800, from the 20th to the 22nd at London's Excel.

What happens if a staff member needs to gain access to more than one set of keys?

The main reason for introducing a Keytracker system is to manage and control the use of keys within the workplace; if your employees need to access more than one set of keys at a time to do their job then there are a couple of options:

1) The keys can be bunched together and stored on one retaining peg so the employee takes the whole bunch and can use the keys as necessary.

2) The employee can be issued with as many access pegs as they need. These can be engraved all the same or in sequence, whichever suits your organisations process best.

3) In the case of new and used car sites there will normally be a set of access pegs used specifically for 'Site Moves' engraved with SM and used specifically when the pitch is moved round, the Sales Manger will distribute these prior to the move and collect them back in once it has been completed.

Since its inception in 1986, Big Motoring World has developed from a home-grown business with 20 vehicles on display to the mega site that is known today with an average of 2,000 vehicles on display at any time.


With such a large and successful operation, the team at Big Motoring World understand the need for operational efficiency, allowing the business to operate at optimum speed and effectiveness to see vehicles from delivery to collection by the customer with as little down time in between.

To further advance their processes Big Motoring World invested in intelligent key management and purchased 6 Keytracker E-Systems in 2015. The E-Systems and integrated automotive software package play a pivotal part in the overall operational efficiency within the business.

With real-time tracking of vehicle keys from taking delivery of stock to handover with the customer, the Keytracker E-System allows Big Motoring World to do what they do best and sell cars, without the interruption of misplaced vehicle keys.

After outgrowing their existing system for managing keys Big Motoring World contacted Keytracker for advice, after fully understanding the unique requirements the solution provided saw 7 electronic key systems installed over the four Big Motoring World sites.

Integration into their existing Dealer Management System was vital to provide a slick process from a vehicle arriving at a preparation site to the point of being driven away by a customer. By integrating with DMS Gemini the electronic system allows all vehicle information and site location to be accessed from a single point, once the system has a key entered the information is fed through to the DMS and into the website, this is crucial to ensure that at the point a vehicle is ready for sale and viewing by a customer, it is automatically advertised and made available.

The benefits to Big Motoring World are passed directly to their customer, with increased efficiency of sales representatives enabling them to spend less time

searching for vehicles and keys and more time with the customer.

The key management system also provides heightened security for these valuable vehicle keys, ensuring that stock is safe and accessible to only approved users and insurance criteria exceeded.
